Hi,

The default value of the depth of nesting of the threaded comments(see? I like nesting...) is 4.

I was wondering if there were any risks in terms of <insert here any user experience metric or server performance related metric> if I put a value of say 50 instead of 4?

Thanks.

A larger depth won't impact the amount of time it takes to read the database -- there is just one database call to get all the comments for a post. The only part that will be impacted is when the server itself prints all the comments into "threads" because it will have to do a little more work, but it shouldn't be a problem unless your sever is already overloaded.

The only real issue is with your theme: with a depth of more than about 5-10 on most themes, child comments are unreadable. If you want to have a large depth, you will have to make sure you style your theme to support this specifically (mostly, you need to worry about the indents.)
